Day 29: I AM Grateful

I have heard the expression “enjoy the process” more times than I can count. However, I’ve struggled to do it because I’m usually so preoccupied with the outcome. I’ve finally figured out, for myself, what the missing ingredient has been for me. It’s gratitude. The only way the outcome isn’t the focus is when I appreciate every moment and every experience. Being in a state of gratitude automatically puts me in a state of presence. As I appreciate my experiences and the people and things around me, I’m neither in the past nor in the future. I’m only in the now. See, I always thought I would never get to where I wanted to go if I lost sight of the outcome. The opposite has been true. My mind has been so consumed with the things of the future that I haven’t been present enough to do what’s necessary to get to that future place I’ve had in mind.

What I’m learning even through my challenges, in the moments when I catch my mind in the future, if I quickly ground myself and give a silent thank you for the current moment, all of a sudden I’m back present and able to continue doing what I need to do. Not just in body, but in heart and mind with focus and intention. I truly feel like I’m experiencing my life for the first time. I’m no longer on autopilot. I’m actually flying the plane now—fully awake.

Thanks to The All that I AM now.
