This morning’s tapping session was about having gratitude for home. It is day five of a twenty-one-day serious on gratitude. The instructor leading the session guided me to open myself to gratitude for the home I live in and the home where I, and everyone else lives, which is the earth. One statement stood out to me. She said, “rest into the support of what is beneath you.” As I sat on my floor, I could feel the weight of my body resting on the support of the floor beneath me. At that moment, I gained a broader appreciation for what home means. What it means to have a home. What a blessing it is to have a home, whether we are talking about a home with doors or home on this earth.
As I tapped, I was fully aware that I was being supported; I realized that I am not supporting myself, and it affords me the comfort to focus my mind on whatever else I choose. This home makes everything else possible. Sitting there, I didn’t have to worry at all whether the floor would be there for me, just like when I step outside, I don’t have to think about whether the ground beneath me will give way. Home is stable. It is solid and can bear the weight of the elements that come upon it. It also gave more meaning to what I heard Kanye West’s mother say in his reason documentary when she said, “keep your feet on the ground.” Keep your feet on the ground because that is what will hold you. That is what will support you—the foundation. And as we’ve all heard so much, that’ll keep you grounded.
